It’s the middle of Frequent Flyer February in a country known for its long winters, its substantial amounts of snow, and its mass exodus during February as its residents attempt to escape the cold for warmer climates.
Winter is all around me, yet all I can think about are flip flops. Sparkly, perfect black flip flops.
Frequent Flyer February is bound to cause flip flop day dreams in any Canadian resident at this time of year, but this year in particular my dreams are far more frequent and filled with much more flip flong longing. These frequent flip flop day dreams are likely caused by the following factors:
- I’ve just moved into a new house in the city after spending the last 6 months living a socks-are-optional lifestyle at the lake, and my freezing toes are now subject to heavy, practical winter boots for the next few months.
- My little family recently moved, and our new home boasts a bird’s eye view of an airport flight path. All day long, we hear planes taking off to far-away destinations, and returning home from foreign lands. Each time I hear the tell-tale sound of an airborne motor, my mind takes flight alongside it and I imagine the exotic locations that the plane’s inhabitants are en route to.
- My social media newsfeeds are inundated with pictures of people currently on vacation. As in literally at this very moment. Costa Rica, Mexico, Arizona, Florida, Baja, you name it and there are pictures of my friends and family currently on vacation there (I’m looking at you, mom and dad). Their pictures boast tropical drinks, pristine beaches, and flip flops. Beautiful, sparkly, perfect black flip flops.
All of these factors have culminated in my constant dreaming of summer. Dreaming of hot summer days by the beach, muggy summer nights by the campfire, summer drinks in umbrellaed mugs, and sparkly, perfect black flip flops.
As I watch out my snowy kitchen window to see yet another airplane fly past, I am struck by the thought that I am wistfully wishing for the future instead of rocking my present fabulous life. I am living vicariously through the pictures on people’s social media feeds instead of basking in my own fantastic plans. I am dreaming of sparkly, perfect black flip flops instead of making my flip flop dreams a reality.
Fate decided to do an intervention into my dream world, and my attention was recently drawn to the website for Girl Two Doors Down (GTDD), a shoe company boasting comfortable yet sexy flip flops that sparkle and shine in a kaleidoscope of colours. Each pair is adorned with beautiful pendants, and a sassy saying lines the bottom, reminding the wearer not to take life too seriously. Celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, and Cameron Diaz have been spotted in GTDD footwear, making me covet them even more.
So let the airplanes fly their patrons to fancy destinations, and let my newsfeeds be plastered in tropical locales, because with the simple click of a button all of my sparkly, perfect black flip flop dreams can come true. Care to join me?
